How do I get a user code/password for WorldConnect? If the account is registered to your current e-mail address, use Password Central. If the account is registered to an old e-mail address and you cannot receive an e-mail from Password Central, contact the HelpDesk using the form here for assistance. Be sure to include your user code or URL (Web address) of your tree, along with both your old and new e-mail addresses. If you submitted a tree to Ancestry.com, click here for help. What is a GEDCOM and how do I make one? GEDCOM is an acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunications. It is a standardized file format for exchanging computerized genealogical data, which enables you to share files with others who may not use the same genealogy program that you do. Instructions for creating a GEDCOM file vary from program to program. Check the help files in your program, its manual, or click here.
Can I edit my WorldConnect tree or my personal information? To update your e-mail address or personal data, go to your user/edit page by entering your user code and password here and click on "Standard" option. Make changes and click upload/update when finished. If you used the advanced User Setup/Edit form for your last upload or update, you should continue to use that form. Your display options may change if you don't. You cannot edit your WorldConnect tree online. You must use your genealogy software program to update your file and create a new GEDCOM. Then go to your user/edit page and place the location of the GEDCOM in line #9. If you use the same user code, the new GEDCOM will replace the old one. Please note it takes 24-48 hours for the search engine to update the index at WorldConnect.
How do I correct data in someone's online tree? You cannot edit someone else's file. Contact the file owner. Or add a Post-em Note to an individual in a file. Click on "Add Post-em" and make up a password.
