Getting
Started - The First Week:
What Your List Expects of You
You may find it helpful to print this page and check off each task as you complete
the task it or become familiar with the process.
|
|
You decide how closely your list follows its topic; you also facilitate
the tone of the list. During the first week, set preliminary guidelines or rules
for the list. Share them with the subscribers as soon as possible, and periodically
remind the list of them so that everyone is aware of them. Add these guidelines
to your welcome letter using the "Edit Files" option of your List Tools. |
|
|
Keep in mind that it is easier to start with minimal rules and
add new ones as needed than to have a long list of rules that subscribers view
as overwhelming or restrictive. You won't be able to please everyone, but if you
are fair and consistent, almost everyone will accept that. |
|
|
Build a community. Your role is that of an administrator and facilitator;
you are not expected to be an expert on the list's topic-just interested in it.
Encourage others to post and respond. If you are the only one responding and you
respond immediately after someone posts, the others may start to see this as your
list and not theirs. |
