Using the List Tools:
Remove (Unsubscribe) an Address from Your List

Use the "Add, Remove, and Search for Subscribers" option on the List Tools to remove an address.

Method One (Single Address):

  1. Enter the user's e-mail address in the box labeled "Search for someone."
  2. Click on the "Do it" button. You will instantly see the search results, or a notice that there were no matches. If there were no matches, try method three (below) or click here for suggestions.
  3. If there was a match, click the "unsub" box (boxes), then click on the "Unsubscribe" button. You will instantly see a confirmation on your screen that your request is being processed.
  4. Follow the remaining steps shown below.

Method Two (Single or Multiple Addresses)

  1. Click on the "View all subscribers" button.
  2. Scroll through the listing, or use the "find" function of your browser, to locate the address.
  3. Check the applicable "unsub" box (boxes), scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on the "Unsubscribe" button. You will instantly see a confirmation on your screen that your request is being processed.
  4. Follow the remaining steps shown below.

Method Three (Single Address):

  1. Enter the user's e-mail address in the box labeled "Remove someone."
  2. Select the appropriate format or mode: -L mode for individual messages or -D for digest format (grouped messages).
  3. Click on the "Do it" button. You will instantly see a confirmation on your screen that your request is being processed.
  4. Follow the remaining steps shown below.

Remaining Steps for All Methods:

  1. You will receive two e-mails for each address you unsubscribe. One confirms that you successfully unsubscribed the address. The other, from "Nobody@rootsweb.com," will contain a multigram. For an explanation of multigrams, click here.
  2. If the request was processed, check the addresses listed in the left column of the multigram to verify that you did not add a duplicate subscription for an address (e.g., in the same format). If you did, unsubscribe one address.
  3. If the request was not processed, recheck the address you entered. If you entered the correct address, compare it to those shown in the left column of the multigram. Look for a similar or variant address. Unsubscribe the variant if you are sure it's a match; write for a confirmation if you are not sure. If you cannot find the address, click here for suggestions.
  4. If you receive a message (bounce) from the subscriber's service provider, you may need to take additional actions (possibly unsubscribing the address). For an explanation on bounces, and for instruction on what actions to take, click here.

NOTE: Occasionally, a subscriber's address will start or end with characters other than letters or numbers. For example, a period (dot) may have been attached to the end. Write to listmaster@rootsweb.com for help in those instances.
