MY SUBMISSION WAS CHANGED. WHY?

Generally it is because of the format of the submission. All submissions are given a cursory review to ensure that the information is in a proper format and is complete.

Another reason your entry might have been changed is because of the abbreviations you used - or didn't use. If this is a possibility, you may want to check the abbreviations you used against the list at http:/helpdesk.rootsweb.com/codes/

HOW DO I CHANGE MY ENTRY?

You use the RSL-Edit form to update your entries. It is the same form you used to submit your entries.

MY E-MAIL ADDRESS CHANGED. WHAT DO I DO?

If you have access to the Internet, you will want to make this change by using the form at http://rsl.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/rsledit.cgi.

If you don't have access to the Internet you can send an email to rsl@rootsweb.com and mark it clearly as a RSL address change. Please show your old address, your new address, and your nametag - and add a brief note that you do not have access to the Internet and are unable to do the change. The same would apply if you were submitting the change by postal mail. Please do not send them by e-mail or postal mail if you have access to the Internet.

You may have other areas within RootsWeb that need to know about your new email address too. Please check the HelpDesk's FAQ section titled Email & Changing Addresses, at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/addresses/ for suggestions and instructions.

MY SURNAMES WERE DROPPED FROM THE LIST. WHY?

The surnames are almost always marked expired, or are dropped, because the annual letter sent to the submitter bounced.

Prior to May, 1998, surnames were removed from the on-line database if the submitter failed to respond to the annual email or if the email bounced. At this time surnames are only removed if the annual letter bounces, or if the submitter requests that they be removed.

It is still RSL policy not to removed surname entries if emails bounce in-between the annual mailings - for instance when one researcher is trying to reach another and their email bounces.

If your submissions to the RSL have been marked expired, you simply need to email us at rsl@rootsweb.com with your new address. If your submissions were removed, and you want them reinstated, you will need to contact us at rsl@rootsweb.com and let us know. The information is still on file at RSL, and it will be activated with the next update.
