The first page of any family tree in the WorldConnect Project will give you
basic information on the submitter: their name, address, the number of records
in this family tree, and the date it was last updated. The same information
will be repeated on every page.
In addition you may find links to the submitter's homepage, or comments they have left
pertaining to their files. This information will be found in the comment areas at the
top and bottom of the page.
You will also see a search engine that looks similar to the top portion of the form
shown here. You can do searches, or browse through an index of names appearing in the
family tree.

Hints for successful searches
- Browse through the listings, or search for partial names, to find variant spellings
- Look for links to the submitter's homepage -- check footers and headers
- Add Post-em Notes to help fill in missing data,
or for corrections
How to use the index form
- Search by surname, or partial surname. Entering just a last name will result in listing
of surnames beginning with the one you entered, and any surnames in the file that begin with that sequence
of letters. A search for WAIT would result in matches for Wait, Waite, and Waitstill in this family tree.
A search of at least three letters of a name say, WIN would result in matches for any surname
in this file beginning with those three letters. The bracketed numbers indicate the number of individual
records in this one family tree for that surname.
Click on any surname in the listing, and you will be given a listing of individuals appearing in the family
tree. At the end of the listing you will find links to see "Previous Page" and "Next Page".
Use those links to review the balance of the index.
- Search by both a surname and given name. To search by a full name, format your entry
as surname, given name (for example: Smith, John). You can include a middle name or initial if
you wish, or you can use partial names. When searching by this method, you will receive a listing beginning
with that person, or names beginning with that sequence of letters.
Caution: Remember the listing starts with the individual
you entered, or names beginning with that sequence of letters. At the end of the listing you will find
links to see "Previous Page" and "Next Page". Use those links to review the balance
of the index, including other individuals with the same surname that appear earlier in the index.
- Advanced searches allow you to enter additional search criteria. You can access the
Global Search Form by clicking on the link next to the "List" button.
- Use the A to Z options, to see all surnames beginning with any given letter. This
is a very effective way to find alternate spellings for surnames. Don't overlook names that are indexed
under the "no surname", "<", and ">" options shown with the A to Z
links.
