These instructions came from other researchers, who shared how to convert files into
GEDCOM format using their respective software programs. Your
instructions may vary, if you have a different version of the program.
We recommend that you upload an unedited version of your family tree -- a GEDCOM that
contains your entire family tree, including all notes and sources to WorldConnect Project.
The WorldConnect Project allows you to clean or remove living individuals, notes, and
sources to protect privacy.
Submitting an unedited file has an added benefit -- it can serve as a second
backup copy of your family tree. The WorldConnect Project maintains two
versions of your file: your original submission, which only you can download,
and the modified version seen by other researchers (which reflects the options
you selected). You can retrieve a copy of the GEDCOM you submitted by using
either the standard or advance setup/edit form.
Your software program may have features that will "clean your file", or remove
notes, sources, and names of the living. If you choose to use your software to
clean a file instead of WorldConnect, we urge you to respect the privacy of the
living.
If you use a different genealogy program and would like to share instructions for creating
a GEDCOM file, please contact our HelpDesk.
